Clarence MacDonald
Season 5, Episode 4ish
Cause of Death: Hanging
A clock tower rung once as Clarence he opened his eyes looking into his dark hood. He had nothing to see but his memories. Breathed deep as he squirmed his neck against the tight noose.
The bell rung a second time and he felt the ground give way. It was so long ago he came to Gommora with just the innocent idea of spreading the truth to the masses. Yet Gommora would change him.
The bell rung a third time as he began to fall. The wonders and terrors he saw were more than enough to fill a lifetime, but it was the people around him; Charity, Two Hawks, Isaac, who would make him fight back.
A fourth chime, the noose tightening around his neck. He took small steps to fight against injustice, corruption, and evil. Tiny victories that in his eyes seemed to help the community.
The bell tolled a fifth time as the rope constricted around his neck, burning his neck. He met a few groups which shared his ideals, though perhaps not with the same motives, yet still he worked with them for united people can accomplish greater things.
The sixth chimed as he stopped falling, the rope getting tighter and cutting off his air. But perhaps his greatest mistake was taking on the leadership role of mayor. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Seventh chime as the world started to fade. While he was able to fight stronger against the coming darkness, the battles took their toll on him as he began to take on some of the same qualities he fought against.
An eighth ring, gasping for air as he swung. There were those who saw Clarence for who he was and tried to support him, keep him from falling; Delilah, Buddy, Ramon, and Charity. They helped him stay the path.
A ninth toll, the world merely an etheral remnant. He had tried to save the town, save the community, but in the end, his efforts were in vain.
The tenth chime as death took him. His final thoughts were of Thermopolis, a new town where his past had caught up with him, but still in his final weeks he could still help the community. God would be my judge. Were my personal sins to save the greater good balanced?
The onlooking crowd dispersed, most were happy to see a Confederate spy hang there in the wind. He had stopped twitching. Two men in black suits and dusters walked to the gallows a grim look on their faces. One man cut him down, as the body slumped to the floor. "He's all yours Mr. King." The second man, pulled out a gattling pistol, "Goodbye Clarence MacDonald" and fired three shots into the back of the corpses head. "The undertaker will take care of the remains, Mr. Lawton. We've got more pressing business to attend to."

Tom 09/08/2010 21:14 hope is also quite comfortable in greenfield these days, in a largely gamer (and thus deadlands) safe place.
Mio 09/08/2010 15:49 I wish the forum were like Facebook. I want to "Like" everything. I would never have to have a genuine thought again.
Jorge Mantoya 09/08/2010 13:33 Hope dangles on a string, like slow-spinning redemption. Winding in and winding out, the shine of it has caught my eye...
Bish 09/08/2010 13:26 No distance is ever safe enough. The only distance that is remotely safe is six feet, and THAT if only chased by two bullets.
The Gentleman Masher 09/08/2010 13:21 I think so. That may almost be a safe enough distance.
Gidim 09/08/2010 12:11 Doesn't she live in Rochester now?
GM Doppelganger 09/07/2010 23:04 Per player request, Hope will be present at the start of Manhattan, how long Hope survives is up to you.
The Gentleman Masher 09/07/2010 17:48 I love tumblebleeds. They're some of the nicest of the things Deadlands can throw at you.
GM Doppelganger 09/07/2010 14:40 If the existence of tumblebleeds in the new town is enough to shatter your hope it wasn't going to last long anyway
Tom 09/07/2010 11:24 ..and it's over. So that's what hope felt like, I always wondered.
